CHICAGO: 3 killed, 25 wounded in less than 24 hours

At least 28 people were wounded in shootings across Chicago from 8:30 a.m. Saturday to 4:30 a.m. Sunday, the equivalent of somebody shot every 43 minutes.

Three of the shootings were fatal, including a murder-suicide in Hyde Park. At 9:49 a.m. Saturday, police responded to the 1400 block of East 54th Street for a well-being check. When they arrived, officers found a 65-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the head. A man, 73, also was found shot in the head. Their deaths are preliminarily being characterized as a murder-suicide incident, police said.

Saturday’s second fatal shooting occurred at 6:05 p.m., when a 23-year-old man was found shot in a car on the 7300 block of South Champlain Avenue in Park Manor, police said. The man was shot in the chest and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition. He later was pronounced dead.

A 33-year-old man was killed in Gresham at 8:20 p.m. He was in the 7600 block of South Eggleston Avenue when he was shot in the back. He went to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious condition and later pronounced dead.
