But for Corey Feldman and Corey Haim – dubbed “The Two Coreys” – life behind the scenes was traumatic and destructive and left one of them dead at 38.

The revelations from a new interview with Hollywood Reporter come just days after actor Elijah Wood said he believed there was a dark underbelly in Hollywood where hopeful young actors were sexually preyed upon.

Feldman spoke about being invited to Hollywood parties run by older industry men where children between the ages of 11 and 16 were plied with drugs and alcohol.

“People are frustrated, people are angry, they want to know how is this happening and they want answers and they turn to me and they say, ‘Why don’t you be a man and stand up and name names and stop hiding and being a coward?’ I have to deal with that, which is not pleasant, especially given the fact that I would love to name names.

“I’d love to be the first to do it. But unfortunately California, conveniently enough, has a statute of limitations that prevents that from happening. Because if I were to go and mention anybody’s name I would be the one that would be in legal problems and I’m the one that would be sued.”

Speaking to Sunday Times last week, Elijah Wood said while he had no firsthand knowledge of child sex abuse in Hollywood, he believed there was a network of paedophiles in the industry.

“Clearly something major was going on in Hollywood. It was all organised. There are a lot of vipers in this industry, people who only have their own interests in mind. There is darkness in the underbelly. If you can imagine it, it’s probably happened.”

The comments were made in relation to British DJ and BBC personality Jimmy Savile, who after his death in 2011 was found to be responsible for molesting more than 450 people aged between eight and 47.

An independent inquiry into Savile’s charges found the threat of child sex abuse in the entertainment industry showed no signs of abating.

“Coupled with celebrity, the power of which shows no sign of diminishing in our society, those features make a powerful combination, which makes detection difficult,” wrote judge Dame Janet Smith.

“Until a complaint is made such people are likely to enjoy the confidence and approval of all those around them.”

Feldman also predicted things would get worse with the rise of social media.

“It’s more now than ever because nowadays you can use the internet to create fake profiles and fake accounts. They reach out to little kids on Twitter, they reach out to little kids on Facebook, and they say, ‘I’m a big producer and I can help you.’

“With social media we have more access than ever to everybody. It’s a growing problem, not a shrinking problem.”
