(Ryan Burnside) Though Republican presidential candidate and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush tried his best to stay strategically silent after fellow candidate Donald Trump announced his intention to run for the White House in June, it didn’t take long for Bush to speak his true feelings.
And he’ll probably pay for it dearly during the first Republican presidential debate on Thursday, hosted by Fox News.
According to sources, when Bush ran into a campaign donor at a recent event, he reportedly called Trump a number of nasty names, including “a buffoon,” “clown” and “ass****.”
Bush — who sat on the political sidelines for eight years — was originally thought to be a shoe-in for the frontrunner position on the Republican side of the 2016 presidential election.
But then, Trump, a multi-billion dollar real estate developer, captured the hearts and minds of American voters after his controversial remarks regarding Mexican illegal immigrants during his June announcement speech.
The former governor tried his best to ignore Trump, who quickly gained on him in the polls and eventually trounced him with over a 2-1 lead in many of them — including a poll taken in Bush’s home state of Florida.
Apparently, Bush is so threatened by Trump that he’s resorted to name-calling and insulting the one candidate who has conservative voters, including some who have never voted in their lives, excited to show up at the polls next year.
What many of the Republican candidates and mainstream media pundits can’t seem to grasp is the fact that the more Trump is attacked, the more his numbers rise (H/T Politico).
American voters on both sides of the political aisle have spoken in a big way and are tired of name-brand career politicians like Bush.
Cursing Trump will likely prove to be a fatal campaign mistake for the candidate that can’t even win the support of the state he once governed.
Let the battle begin.
